1. Try to get as many legitimate backlinks as possible
A backlink is a link on another website that links back to your site. The most popular ways for people to get backlinks is by guest blogging: writing relevant blog posts for other websites with a link to theirs embedded in it somewhere.
2. Use your important keywords in header sections of the website.
One of the ways for search engines to determine relevance is by essentially looking for words that are of clear importance — where better than the headers to see that? This method works well because if people try to stuff a bunch of keywords or phrases into headers, their website won’t be appealing to anyone that visits it, resulting in a lack of visitors in the long run.
Use Google’s Keyword Planner to get keyword ideas and traffic estimates.
3. Content is king
That is one of Google’s favorite phrases with regards to search engine optimization. In a recent update, they greatly increased the significance of websites that get frequently updated and relevant content. That is part of the reason why websites focusing on video games to secret plumbing techniques almost all have blogs: for SEO.
4. Having keywords in the body of the text is important but don’t overdo it.
A general good practice with regards to SEO is to have your target keywords in the body of your text as often as possible — but not too often. People that try to trick search engines use techniques — that are referred to as “blackhat” — to stuff their pages with keywords. Google and Bing punish websites they think are trying to trick them by lowering their page rankings.
